Practising French @ Home:
One of the best ways to practise a new language is to interact with it in authentic ways, and make connections to your own personal experiences and preferences! How? Well, you can try....
- ...watching your favourite movie(s) in French, or with French subtitles.
- ...getting to the library and reading a familiar book in French (e.g. “Ours Brun, Ours Brun, Dis-Moi...” / “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see?”). Comic Books and Graphic Novels will help, too!
- ...switching the language on your social media accounts (e.g. Twitter, Facebook) to French.
- ...ordering a French version of your favourite board game (e.g. Apples to Apples, Pictionary, Spot It).
- ...switching your iTunes location to a French speaking country (e.g. France, Belgium, Switzerland) and listening to music that's topping the charts in French-speaking countries.
- ...watching French television or listen to French radio (e.g., 90.3 FM).
- ...reading the French around you (it’s everywhere! From your cereal box to the tag on your t-shirt!).
- ...challenging yourself to use French in the “real world” outside the classroom (e.g. identify French foods you know the next time you’re at the grocery store, joining a French-speaking club or team, seeking out a pen-pal in a French speaking province or country…).
